It's been a rough few months, what with both of my parents being sick. Unfortunately, my dad lost his battle with cancer on July 15, 2013. I am so grateful that I was able to spend his 72nd birthday with him just two weeks before. I will get the reviews up there soon. I promise. For now you can read most of them on goodreads. http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/3110580-kelli-belliUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8907250097692665670.post-18768277466840151742013-03-27T18:05:00.002-04:002013-03-27T18:05:13.759-04:00Book #12
I loved this book! Even though there were times I wanted to punch Sydney in the face, and the ending completely pissed me off, I still absolutely loved it. I love this series. I love Adrian. I think the next book should just be about Adrian. All Adrian, all the time.
Ok, this is your typical girl and boy with tragic pasts meet and try NOT to fall in love, fail miserably at that but not without a couple of road blocks on the way. BUT the way J. Lynn writes it, makes it anyting but typical. I finished this book yesterday and I am still thinking about Cam and Avery. I'm so glad that there is going to be another book. I suggest listening to Shiver, Shiver by Walk the Moon and Arms by Christina Perri after (or while) you are reading. Those too songs totally make me think of Cam and Avery. Oh, and I heart Cam. Hard. JLA has a way with book boys, I have to say.
SPOILERS!!!! SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!!

First of all, let me just say that I love Lauren Oliver, I love this series and I really, really did like this book. BUT, being that it is the last one of the series, it fell a little flat for me. I feel like the ending was rushed in trying to tie up all the loose ends, almost like the book couldn't be more then x amount of pages long. I didn't like that Alex and Lena got a 5 second reunion after all the agnst we had to go through during the books, especially these last two. I didn't like that Hana was just left wandering around in the woods. Did she get far enough away when the bomb exploded to survive? Did the bomb even go off? I did like how both Lena and Hana were kind of going back to their original way of thinking about the disease and I'm happy that Hana's cure didn't work. Although, I have to admit, I was worried that Lena was going to turn herself in and get cured to get over the pain of Alex. Having just read Annabel, I'm also glad that Lena and her mother finally were together. An Epilogue would have been nice though. Maybe there will be a novella to let us know what the future held for everyone. Hint, hint. Nudge, nudge, Ms. Oliver. ;)

While Camelia did kind of annoy me in the beginning, this was my favorite book of the series. I'm sorry that it's the last one now. But is that true, because there seems to be a bunch of loose ends, especially where Alexia is concerned. I'm just gald the whole love triangle thing got worked out because that was my least favorite thing about the entire series.
3.5 Stars I think if there was less talk about God and being a good Christian I would have liked this book better. Her church sounded more like a cult to me and I couldn't understand why they would continue to go there considering how they were treated. All the scenes at church just frustrated me to no end. I just wish Parker had stuck up for herself more. Just because she's kissed a lot of boys, doesn't make her a bad girl. I really didn't care for Brian. I did in the beginning but once I realized how old he was, I thought he was kind of gross. I loved Corn Fritter though!
I liked this book....but I didn't. Cassie annoyed me to no end. One minute she's thinkging she's hot shit, the next she has no self-esteem. She has all these trust issues and daddy issues but we never learn why. Because her dad said he was going to get a band to play her prom and didn't and that embarassed her? If my dad told me that, I'd laugh at him. We never learned what her deal with her parents was that caused her to havs "issues". She also seemed to care to much about what other people thought. I hated the whole mugging scene. It served no purpose to the plot of the story at all and i have no idea why it was there. I hated the whole cheating/pregnancy thing. It seemed to come out of, pardon the pun, left field. Jack and Cassie's relationship was going great, even with the long distance and suddenly, after calling her, he gets so drunk he cheats? Sorry, I don't buy it. It also reminded me too much of An Officer and a Gentleman. And can we please talk about the nickname "Kitten". There is only one Kitten in my literary world, and that is Katy and only Daemon can call her that. There were other things too that made me think of my favorite alien series (Cassie not knowing whether she wanted to punch Jack's face or kiss it sounded really familiar). I hated that Cassie turned into a typical whiney girl after she and Jack started dating. She lost all of her snark that had me almost liking her in the beginning of the book. And why didn't Melissa and Dean hook up? Or even date anyone for that matter? The best friend and brother should have gotten a little bit of action.

Okay, so what did I like about this book, you ask? Two words Jack effingCarter. I loved his cockiness. I loved that he was an asshole. I loved that he has black hair. I loved that he is a baseball player. I loved how he changed with Cassie, yet didn't, whereas Cassie seemed to become a completely different person when they started dating. But Jack, oh no. Jack was true to form and still an asshole to other girls. I liked the love story for the most part, I just could have done without a lot of the silly drama that really didn't need to be there. The end (and Jack) really saved this book for me. Now, I want to go find my own baseball player to date.
It was cute, but kind of typical. Girl and boy meet. Girl and boy hate each other. Girl and boy hook up. Girl finds some assinine reason to deprive herself of boy. Girl realizes she loves boy and gets him back. Girl and boy live HEA. Nothing new there. I'm glad we got Romeo's POV of Riley's audition at the end because that helped clear up why he was such a dick to her. I didn't like how every guy in the band, every guy who saw the band and her male best friend are all in love with her though. I would have liked it much better if Marcus had been strictly the MBFF and secretly lusting after Chloe.
3.5 Stars - This book was not what I thought it was going to be. For starters, I didn't realize that the Protagonist was 16 and the Rock Star was 27!!!???!!! That was kind of ick for me. Then I hated the way Mac and Jackson both spoke to her. Mac is supposed to be her best friend and he treated her kind of crappy throughout the book. Jackson, he's a rock star, so I guess it's to be expected? It was still a really cute read and was fun to see how Jody started to find herself throughout the story. I have to admit, I LOVED the last chapter and the epilogue. They made me tear up a bit and then just smile until the end.
Regardless of what the blurb on the back of the book says, I didn't find this book hilarious or heartwarming. I thought this book was going to be a cutesy, quick read that made me cry a little and laugh a lot. It didn't turn out that way. At all. The last 27 pretty much saved this from getting a 2 Star rating. Unfortunately there was more about this book that I didn't like than I did. I didn't like that the protagonist had such low self esteem or the fact that her two best friends fed of that, not helping matters at all. I didn't like her crazy mother or idiot father. No wonder Amy felt so poorly about herself. The only character I did like, was Joe and he wasn't in it nearly enough. Once I hit page 300 though, I was all in. Unfortunately, it was a little too late then.
I really, really wanted to LOVE this book. Unfortunately, and Hillary, you will appreciate this, because Zoey annoyed me so much, I didn't. I liked it. It was a decent story and a quick read but most of the characters sucked. I mean, her parents? She'd be better off living in her car. Her dad is so over the top, I couldn't stand reading anything he said. Her best friends were just awful. How does the fact that Zoey didn't feel like broadcasting to the world that her mother tried to kill herself suddenly become about them? And how Zoey couldn't see that Brandon was not going to change for her was beyond me too. I did, however, absolutely adore Doug Fox. And Officer Fox as well. They pretty much saved this book for me.
(4.5 Stars)I really, really liked this book. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down and was up until the wee hours of the morning finishing it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because due to the subject matter I just didn't feel right going that. Like, how could I "love" such a heartbreaking story. I pretty much knew what was going on from the beginning, but it still shredded my heart just the same. I just wish there had been a Epilogue so that we would know that everything had turned out alright in the end.
This book was cute and the ending really saved it for me but I didn't like or connect with Julie. Otherwise it would have gotten more stars. I thought Julie was very shallow. In the beginning of the book she says how happy she is to be getting away from her "friends" so she doesn't have to hide that she likes school and learning just so she can be popular, but then she constantly makes fun of Matt for being smart and his fashion choices and wants to change almost everything about Celeste to make her popular.
Despite some grammatical errors and words that I think were misused, I really enjoyed this book and it's characters. And Micha's lip ring. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I am so disappointed in this book it's not even funny. Hush, Hush is one of my favorite books and Patch is one of my favorite book boys. This final book of the series just did not meet my expectations. Then entire middle of the book could have been left out. I was hoping this book would have gone back to the romance between Patch and Nora but there really wasn't much of that. And the Epilogue? I really didn't care what happened to Vee and some guy we never even got to meet.
This gets between 3.5 and 4 Stars. It would have gotten more if Jordan, a girl who was so scared of receiving her first kiss, bailed on it, hadn't given up her V card after the second kiss. That seemed totally out of character for her. Other than that, I really enjoyed the story and the characters.
3.5 Stars This is another book that's difficult to rate. While I enjoyed it, I didn't really care for the Protagonist. She was kind of annoying and, well, dumb. Really? She couldn't tell that Travis wanted to be more than friends? And the fact that she never told him how she felt at Thanksgiving made me want to kill her. There were other little things that bothered me about the book. Like how Shepley and America constantly spoke for Travis, and all the "huffing", "puffing" and "grabbing of faces with both hands". I also think both of their backgrounds were left to be way to vague. Abby was running away from this rough life but all I saw was that her father had a gambling problem. And Travis became such a good fighter from getting beat by his dad and brothers, but when they call, he runs to play poker with them or cook them a Thanksgiving meal. While it was entertaining after reading some of the reviews, I expected more from it. I loved Travis though, for the most part. I didn't like that once he got with Abby, he kind of lost his edge and just came as being possessive and a little crazy.
I still have my crush on Patch. I just wonder why the 2nd book in alot of these series have to rip my heart apart through most of them.

Edited: Reread 11/27/2012:

I totally forgot about that cliffhanger of an ending!! I read this book the first time almost two years ago to the exact date. While I did enjoy it just as much, Nora annoyed me a little bit more on this second reading than she did on the first. I do like being able to read this series one right after the other though!
