Is It Just Me?

So, I'm sitting and reading If I Die by Rachel Vincent on my lunch break when BAM! my entire mood and day are ruined by the turn of events in the book!  It got me to thinking, what is it about these YA authors that they manage to get me so emotionally attached to their characters?  I've never had books or the characters in them affect me so much before (maybe that's because before I found Twilight and all these wonderful YA worlds, I read mostly Non Fiction).  Does anyone else have this problem?

Whenever something goes wrong or something bad happens to the main character, or if I don't agree with what they are doing or decisions they are making, I will feel it as if it is happening to a dear friend.  The pain, the anger, the grief, the regret, all of it.  If the heroine in the story chooses the boy I don't like, it can ruin my whole day.  You know what I'm talking about.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who practically threw my copies of New Moon and Eclipse across the room after certain events transpired.

And if the couple breaks up?  I'll be sad and upset about it until I finally get to the part where they hopefully get their Happily Ever After.

Don't get me wrong, my book loves don't just make me angry or sad, they can make me extremely happy too!  As good things unfold in books, and the girl gets the "right" boy, I can be happy to the point of almost giddy.  It's like when you get butterflies in your stomach when you know you are going to see that guy you've been crushing on.

I blame it all on the dreaded Love Triangle.  Every time one pops up in a book (which seems to be more often than not), I know I'm not going to be a happy camper for a bit.  It usually makes me like the lead female character less and less because I just don't understand how you can love two people at the same the time.  I just don't buy into concept at all.  But I push along through and hope for a Happily Ever After, in some way, shape or form.

What books break your heart or make you giddy with glee?

  1. So did you finish If I Die?

I'm very into Clockwork Prince and the whole Will/Tessa/Jem triangle. Even more so than I was into Jace and Clary. I really like Simon, so I didn't care if J&C got together.

  2. I haven't finished If I Die yet and I am not happy with where things are going.

I don't like the Clockwork Prince triangle at all. Jem just doesn't do it for me. I guess I will always fall for the bad boy. ;)

I never really viewed Jace, Clary and Simon as a love triangle so that didn't bother me at all. Jace and Clary have enough issues of their own to work out without that added complication! Now, the Isabelle/Simon/Mia triangle I love! I'm totally Team Isabelle!
